Established in 2014, as per the directions of Medical Council of India under the Nodal centre (St. John’s Medical College), the department currently has a strength of 13 faculty certified by NMC with training in the Nodal Centre (St. John’s Medical College) and are therefore qualified as resource persons for conducting Medical Education Technology workshops. It has all the infrastructure and equipment as per NMC guidelines. This has led us towards innovative curricular reforms resulting in integrated undergraduate medical curriculum. The faculty development programs conducted in association with the NMC in parallel to curriculum development equipped the faculty and leadership for the curricular changes.

AIM

To bring a qualitative and quantitative change in the teaching-learning process for both undergraduate and postgraduate students of the college.

OBJECTIVE

  • Be responsible for all educational processes at AIMS & RC.
  • Provide oversight on the educational activities of the medical college (UG & PG).
  • Ensure continuous quality improvement in Medical education plan, implement and evaluate curricular development and faculty development in the medical college in alignment with the NMC initiatives.
  • Ensure curriculum development through the curriculum committee.
  • Ensure Faculty development by conducting Faculty development programs and workshops.
  • Sensitize and facilitate Information and Communication technology integration in the medical curriculum
  • Help develop specialized educational labs, like Skills lab, Simulation Centre etc
  • Facilitate educational research through projects & research publication
  • Keep the medical college updated on the current trends in Medical education by conducting journal clubs & workshops

02UNDERGRADUATE ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

Undergraduate students, once enrolled, go through a week-long orientation programme aimed at sensitizing them about adult learning principles, time and stress management, health scenario of the country, respect to patients, etc.

03FEEDBACK

There is a system in place for obtaining and compiling student feedback about faculty members.

04INTERNS AND POSTGRADUATE ORIENTATION

Interns and postgraduates are exposed to lateral learning of medico-legal issues, waste management, hospital safety and communication skills.

05MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME

An important part of the student support mechanism, this programme puts in place an effective mentor-mentee system and offers students support, guidance and encouragement

06SYNOPSIS EVALUATION AND GUIDANCE

The members of MEU evaluate the synopsis submitted by PG students to undertake research for dissertation.

07 IN-HOUSE WORKSHOPS

The faculty is constantly encouraged to use effective and updated teaching techniques taught in these workshops. These include methods like e-learning, simulation, standardized patients, small group teaching, advances in assessment methods, educational research, etc.

08PEER EVALUATION

The MEU organises evaluation of faculty members by peers, providing feedback to the faculty and inputs to the administrators.
